Happy Labor Day and the West Indian American Day Carnival
Happy Labor Day! I hope you are having a wonderful, fun-filled day.
In New York, during labor day weekend there’s a huge carnival called the West Indian American Day Carnival, which is a celebration of caribbean culture. New York City has a HUGE caribbean population. People come from all over the world for this carnival and it’s an amazing time. I mean great colorful and vibrant costumes. Each island has a float with their most popular band/celebrity from that island with crowds of people following them. I no longer go to the actual carnival like I used to, but I do enjoy all the festivities that takes place during the weekend. It’s an awesome time in Brooklyn. You will see cars driving around with their islands flag on their car.
Any hoo, in celebration of the West Indian Day Carnival I wanted to celebrate all my fellow caribbeans and invite everyone from the caribbean to represent their island by leaving a comment with where they are from. I am from HAITI and I love being a haitian-american.
How will you be celebrating labor day? If you’re from the caribbean, rep your island in the comment section.
